iPhone 5 most anticipated phone of 2012 in UK

Apple’s iPhone 5 is the most hotly anticipated smartphone for 2012, according to a new survey. The device, which hasn’t even received a launch date, has been the topic of speculation before, most notably ahead of an October launch that turned out to be the iPhone 4S.

The survey asked 1, 916 UK adults what was the tech device they were most looking forward to in 2012. They weren’t limited to just one answer and could offer several products. Apple came in the top two slots with the iPhone 5 coming top and the iPad 3 in second place. The smartphone was top for 74% of respondents. The only other smartphone in the list was the Samsung Galaxy S3, rumored to launch in the first quarter of 2012, which was top choice for just over half, 54% of respondents. The rest of the list included the Nintendo Wii U, the Google Tablet, Apple TV, Amazon Kindle Fire, PSP Vita, Google TV and Intel Ultrabooks.

The survey reveals that Apple is still hugely popular and can garner huge amounts of support and excitement before a device is even announced. Speculation started early in 2011 about the possibility of an iPhone 5. It hit fever pitch as a press conference was announced in October and the iPhone 4S did have to prove itself against more than a little disappointment that the smartphone wasn’t the device they were expecting.

The people who were polled for the survey were asked to say when they were excited about the device they were voting for. Those who were anticipating the iPhone 5 said they were looking forward to seeing what features it had to offer. Looking at what was unveiled with the iPhone 4S, it’s likely users can expect a greater interaction and integration with the iCloud, further developments in Siri and even more new kit on the 8 megapixel camera. A new A6 chip processor is on the cards along with 4G for the UK, as the spectrum auctions should take place this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the follow up to the popular S2, which dominated many charts of the past year. Samsung might be disappointed that their device is not higher in the list as they expect to sell over 150 million. Yet it is likely its influence will be felt even in the design of the iPhone 5, more so than with the iPhone 4S. Over the course of 2011 Android devices were released with larger screens, slimmer bodies and more solid cases. The iPhone 4S changed only slightly from the iPhone 4. The next generation, it is widely expected, will adopt some of these more “Android” features with perhaps a 4 inch plus display. There are even suggestions that display could be in 3D. Some blogs claim Apple has been in touch with LG and also Sharp about display panels for new products, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

Whatever the iPhone 5 possesses, Apple will be pleased to hear it’s already on people’s lips.
