Comex who was behind popular Spirit jailbreak has announced of its new release for a new jailbreak tool for iOS 4 and iOS 4.0.1 users. The new Spirit jailbreak tool will support all the devices including iPod Touch 2G, iPod Touch 3G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
For those who haven’t stored SHSH blobs yet they are suggested to save it for iOS 4.0 or iOS 4.0.1 as you won’t get any options to save it later after upgrading . The hacker is not waiting for Apple to release iOS 4.1, so we can expect the new Spirit jailbreak in some time..
The Spirit tool will be using userland jailbreak method to jailbreak the devices as before

SHSH blobs for 4.0.1 or 4.0 are fine; AFAIK there are no substantive differences except the bars
To be clear: if I don’t run into problems, it will work on 4.0 or 4.0.1. No need to update to 4.0.1. SHSH blobs for either are fine.
