A few concessions and a €729 price tag

As mentioned in the introduction, OnePlus' T models are revisions of their flagship models optimised to reduce costs. They eliminate the superfluous elements to keep what matters most to users: the CPU and the GPU. Here the CPU is even upgraded as the OnePlus 10T 5G features the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (claimed to be 30% more powerful) along with a new 3D cooling system to avoid any heating issues.

This OnePlus 10T 5G takes the lines of its big brother the OnePlus 10 PRo since the look is more or less the same: as indicated in the test of the latter: I find the aspect very noble to the object as much chic, soft and solid. I perceive a desire from the brand to come and play on the iPhone's plateaus and I really appreciate the approach. The shape is very pleasant and the weight is well balanced whether it is with or without its protective pouch.

My Jade Green version, however, unlike the matte coating of the 10 Pro, is made of shiny glass and gets filled with fingerprints quite quickly.

Slightly bigger and heavier: it's now 8.8mm thick and weighs 204 grams on the scale, which currently puts it in the middle range.

Knowing that we find the new revision of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Chipset announced 30% more powerful and that some leaks announced a smartphone largely above the million points: I am a little disappointed.  I did the test several times and the only way to increase this score is to switch the smartphone to performance mode: there my score becomes 1,033,933 points: it's better but not crazy and I don't have the 10 Pro at hand to make a similar comparison.

The model I have in my hands has 256GB of storage, but there will also be a 128GB version with 8GB of ram

As for autonomy, it has a 4800 mAh battery, which is a little less than the 10 Pro. The device is in the average by proposing an autonomy of a big day but is exceeded by a good number of its competitors on this point. The 150W fast charge allows you to charge your phone in 11 minutes and that's amazing. Special mention for the charger which now includes a USB Type C cable on both sides: finally!

The smartphone runs on OxygenOS 12 and features the HyperBoost Gaming Engine which allows the system to deliver 100% of the power to your game for the best possible performance.

10-bit, 120Hz display, 360 degree antenna

The OnePlus 10T 5G features a 6.7-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz capable of displaying a 10-bit colour spectrum, meaning 1 billion colours!  As with its big brother, the OnePlus 10 Pro, the screen is truly magnificent and the level of detail is mind-blowing.

The new Smart Link antenna improves the signal by taking up 360 degrees on the entire frame of the smartphone. This is technology we've seen before from Oppo and is certainly a result of their collaboration.

All in all, we can say that the OnePlus 10T 5G is in line with its big brother concerning the screen and the performances by offering more or less the same thing.

As for sound, there's no 3.5mm jack, so you'll have to get a pair of wireless headphones, and for that the OnePlus 10T 5G supports the AptX HD standard, which is the best available.

The OnePlus 10T speakers

The speakers built into the phone offer sufficient sound for all notifications and noises from your phone, but for listening to music, the sound saturates quite quickly, the bass has no scope: in short, it is a use to avoid.
The phone is still not eSIM compatible, which is a shame!

A photo experience far below the 10 Pro

The OnePlus 10T 5G has a 3-camera rear unit like its bigger brother, built into a bracket that sticks out a few millimetres on the back, including a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide angle. The 4th element that you can see on the back is the flash, which is much bigger than usual.

The photos are good, the colorimetry offers a sky with colours a little artificial in my opinion, I let you judge my shots with the default options, ia activated:

Contrary to the Pro series: no collaboration with Hasselblad and more modest cameras: this 10T 5G version is not the one for photography since we lose a little everything that made the strength of the 10Pro. The selfie camera is more modest and the wide angle is not good at all.

Well, don't worry, the photos are still very nice. However, given the price of the OnePlus 10Pro, which is currently on sale, if you like photography, I recommend that you go for this model.

As was the case last year, OnePlus is collaborating with Hasselbad to benefit from their experience in colour rendering, but also to add some on-board filters designed by renowned photographers. This is one more thing in common with the incredible Oppo Find X5 Pro which, as a reminder, is sold for €400 more.

On the video front, the stabiliser still works well in software.  We lose the 8K support on this OnePlus 10T 5G model, but I didn't find it very useful, from my point of view.

Opinions on the OnePlus 10T 5G

If you've read everything so far, you'll understand: I'm a bit disappointed by this OnePlus 10T 5G: the new CPU doesn't offer the 30% extra power we imagined, we lose in autonomy and the photos are inevitably inferior with more modest cameras and without the Hasselblad contribution.

Offered at 729€, I find the entry ticket a bit high in view of the numerous concessions mentioned above.
